One of the things i like to shoot is emotion, and messages of motive. I was given a challenge by a talented canadian photographer called Spencer Warren. Spencer is still developing his skills and he is coming along way from where he started. (but this blog is about me – lol) Anyway, the challenge was to show someone popping out with flash, while fanning their hair with a picture frame, there had to be a picture in the frame.
It’s an interesting shoot because i wanted to tie in the meaning of the picture to the subject. I decided to ask Clare to do this shoot with me as her passion for Christ can be used in the shoot. Thus i came up with Clare fanning her hair with a photo of Christ. – Thus the title a BIG FAN!
Clair is a brilliant singer in the Worship team at my church. 🙂
For the shoot we used a large empty shed on the church grounds, The youth group play indoor soccer there, so the space was just awesome. We used 2 flashes, one direct front, and one directly behind. we also used a yellow flood light centre above. We cheated with the fan effect, we had to use at first a hair dryer underneath the frame, and then a large industrial fan. There was no way we could fan that picture frame fast enough to get the blowing hair effect.
